Annual Alumni Baseball Season Kick-Off
Crusader baseball season opened Saturday, January 28, with an exhibition game against an alumni team, an exciting game that demonstrated that alums don’t have to go to seed after college. Those watching were impressed by the playing on both sides.
But what happens after DCC baseball? Professional baseball? Ministry? “Get a job”?
A visit to the dugout revealed that, if the alums who showed up for the game are any indication, Coach Denny Dixon’s folks are doing what they ought to be doing. Though this is a highly unscientific survey, everyone was happy to tell me what they are doing. At least six named some sort of baseball work, and everyone that I asked about church immediately responded with the name of the one they attend. (If there’s not a church listed below, it’s because I didn’t ask.) And it was clear that this group was having a great time playing together.
Here’s what I learned (which you all probably know already because of social media):
s but may end up in accounting after all. He attends Lakewood Church in Houston.
Ronald Jackson is playing for the Black Sox League, in hopes of moving into bigger leagues. He gets to play baseball fulltime, more or less.
Trevor Lynn is working in sales for United Healthcare.
Michael Maher, in Garland, is in his third year as a tech at Garland Anesthesia Associates. He attends Northplace Church in Sachse.
Nate Maxey is in his last semester of classwork at DCC.
Jordan Nowels is finishing in FLEXCampus®, is a personal trainer, and is trying out for an independent team.
Jen Saucier, back as team manager, is substitute teaching in Richardson while working on teacher certification for fourth- through eighth-grade history through Texas Teachers. She also coaches a seventh-grade team for Spring Valley Athletic Association in Richardson.
Dustin Tarpley teaches seventh- and eighth-grade history and twelfth-grade Bible at Lakeland Christian Academy in Lewisville. He and Brianna married October 2, 2015, and they attend The Branch at Vista Ridge.
Taylor Peddicord, Hurst, married his neighbor of thirteen years, Amanda, in October, 2016 (their parents still live across from each other). Taylor is operations supervisor for Total Building Maintenance, overseeing sixty-six buildings.
Cha Pizarro, Lewisville, is coaching a Spitfire teams of eleven and under, and nine and under. The older team was number one in the US in the Spitfire organization.
Tim Wallace has his real-estate license and is now working on his broker’s license. He coaches a select team at Parish Episcopal High School in Addison.
Cal Westland is in his last semester at DCC.
Tom Wilson is an accounts manager for an IT sales company in East Dallas.
Now can anyone give me a report on the game? I do know that the final score was a tie, 10 all. So much for my sports’ reporting….
