Crusader Baseball Defeats Southwestern Christian University
Just a few hours after eliminating the #4 seed in the NCCAA Central Regional Tournament, the Crusaders did it again, defeating second-seeded Southwestern Christian University, 7-4.
DCC struck first, scoring a run in the top of the first inning. SCU tallied two of their own in the bottom of the inning. That’s how things stood until the top of the 4th, when the Crusaders scored four runs during a two-out rally. Once they took the lead, they never looked back, adding single runs in the 5th and 6th innings. SCU managed to scratch out single runs in the 8th and 9th innings, but it was too little, too late, for them.
Starting pitching again proved to be invaluable, as Nick Carrell threw a complete game for the win. The Crusaders had timely hits from throughout the order, particularly during the 4th inning outburst, while several key defensive plays helped keep SCU at bay.
Today’s two wins put DCC in the final three of the tournament. They’ll face the loser of tomorrow’s game between top-seeded Oklahoma Baptist University and #3 seed Oklahoma Wesleyan University in another elimination game at 4:30 tomorrow.
