Crusader Baseball Season Comes to a Close

Crusader Baseball Season Comes to a Close

The Crusaders’ impressive run in the NCCAA Central Regional Tournament came to an end with a hard-fought 10-9 loss to third-seeded Oklahoma Wesleyan University in the semifinal game on Friday.

After getting excellent performances from their starting pitchers in their first four games, DCC was forced to take a committee approach on the mound, using four hurlers in the game. The Crusaders’ bats were hot, though, as evidenced by the nine runs scored.

Coming into the tournament DCC was seeded fifth, but managed to knock off the #8, #4 and #2 seeds before finally bowing out. That performance was apparently not enough to sway the NCCAA selection committee, though, as they chose Southwestern Christian University, the #2 seed that the Crusaders eliminated, and regional champion Oklahoma Baptist University to represent the region at the NCCAA World Series this week.

So, another successful season of DCC baseball comes to a close with a tournament performance that we can all point to with pride. Going forward, we will miss the contributions of our eight seniors, Jacob Houpt, Ron Jackson, Michael Maher, Nathan Maxey, Kale McQuillen, Jordan Nowels, Nick Tovar, and Cal Westland. They were all key players for multiple seasons. We wish them the best as they move into the next chapters of their lives.
