FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: May 8, 2016

Dallas, Texas- Worship Arts Director Scott Spies has announced that this will be his final year in his role at Dallas Christian College. Professor Spies will begin as the minister for worship development at Northside Christian Church in Spring, Texas, a northern suburb of Houston, in August 2016.5602bccf-c0cf-4e8e-8761-45a4789ce3ea

DCC President Brian Smith stated: “It is with a heavy heart that I announce the departure of one of our beloved faculty members and a treasured member of the DCC community. Scott has a multitude of accomplishments in his various roles at DCC, and has been a professional and personal mentor to countless students and even staff throughout his tenure.

“Although it is hard to lose Scott, we know he is headed to a growing and thriving ministry at Northside Christian Church, a ministry that has long supported the College under the leadership of DCC alumnus and lead pastor, David Garison. We wish him the best as he begins this new journey and pray that God will richly bless his work and the ministry there at Northside.”

A reception for Professor Spies will take place on the DCC campus in the administration building at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 9th. The DCC community and all guests are invited to join at this time to honor Professor Spies and to recognize his many accomplishments. Members of the public are also welcome to attend.

Dr. Perry Stepp, DCC vice president for academics, said of Professor Spies, “Scott has been a wonderful friend and a clear embodiment of Christlikeness to the students he has taught and mentored. We know that God will do amazing things in the life of Northside Christian Church through him, just as God has done amazing things through Scott here at the College.” Dr. Stepp added that Professor Spies will continue to be a vital asset to the worship arts department by teaching various core courses in the program.

“Scott is skilled at developing relationships both within the College and in the community,” added Mark Worley, vice president for advancement, who started the DCC mentoring program, a foundational component of the DCC experience, nearly a decade ago. “He has dedicated his life to mentoring others and played an important role in the development of our mentoring program here at the College.”

Senior student, Caitlin Martin, stated: “Scott Spies completely broke down everything I felt and believed about worship and illuminated me, through scripture, why we worship, how we should worship, and what God expects from us as we worship. His humility and patience, his extensive musical and theological knowledge, and his commitment to Christ and his Church make him one of the best teachers I’ve ever learned from.”

President Smith greatly appreciates the invaluable work of the Worship Arts Department that Professor Spies helped to establish. “We are so proud of our graduates who are serving in this capacity all over the world, and we remain steadfast in our commitment to producing graduates who will influence the church and the world through the ministry of music and the arts for God’s Kingdom,” said President Smith. The College will be selecting additional faculty to teach in the worship arts program.

Professor Spies came to DCC in a full-time capacity in 2003, after serving as a church planter in Moscow, Russia, for nine years. He began his career at DCC in the admissions and advancement areas before joining the faculty upon completion of his master’s degree in music education from Southern Methodist University in 2003. As the worship arts program director, Professor Spies has been instrumental in organizing ministry teams and choir tours, including SALTeens, the summer choir ministry for high-school students that has performed in churches and other venues throughout the country since the 1980s.
